Best set of the day: TV On The Radio. My pick here just might have something to do with getting backstage and then watching from just feet from the front of the stage. The band has no signs of slowing down, playing and singing hard from start to finish. They only played for about 35 minutes but were able to pack in all of their best songs.
White Rabbits and The Cribs were two good early sets. The Cribs seem to have grown up a bit in the last two years. White Rabbits were heavy into percussion with at times two drummers and even adding a third as their keyboardist added a hand.
Modest Mouse didn't play much that was obscure, got a lot of singing help from the audience with most of the tracks chosen from just their last two CDs.
Other sets: Heartless Bastards, Black Angels, Apostle of Hustle, Kings of Leon and Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam was a good band to close it out. I enjoyed some of the songs and the band and fans sure were into it, even got an extra boost when the Navy Pier fireworks started up. I especially liked Eddie's short song "Don't go to BP Amoco".
Surprise set of the day: Peter, Bjorn & John experienced a power outage for roughly 25 minutes during their third song. They made up for most of it and played a bit past their time slot, were joined by members of Apostle of Hustle and Silversun Pickups for Young Folks which pleased everyone.
