I think I'm finally going to make one of these Kid A show tonight. Chicago's own Radiohead cover band, with Nirvana cover band opening. It all takes place at the Abbey Pub Friday January 27. Tonight it's In Rainbows plus some other "hits".
I've been listening to a few internet radio stations lately. My vote for the best goes to KEXP. I love the variety, bunches of 80's new wave, reggae & world, and today's cutting edge. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.
I tuned into a few KCRW shows today and one of them featured Alabama Shakes. A good way to get to know the band and most of the songs they've been playing in their live shows.
As they say, things are shaping up for both the official showcase and Yard Dog party. Really people, not to be missed! Can't wait to hear a few songs from Lydia Loveless!
I'd say the hottest new album this week is by Cloud Nothings. Stereogum has some songs and you can check out the label Carpark Records for some other cool stuff including Class Actress, Dan Deacon, Toro y Moi and more. Cloud Nothings play April 6 at Schubas.
I'm always amazed by the crappy music that folks will listen to and buy. Here's a list of 14 Albums that surprisingly went platinum. Seriously (for all of them)?
Nice article about the rock & soul of the Alabama Shakes via The American-Statesman. My guess is they'll be touring for a while and could hit Chicago again, and a larger venue.
Here's a Deli list that is still being compiled. Best Emerging Chicago Artists list includes Go Long Mule and others. Check back at the end of the month for the final list.
I remember a short time ago I could listen to WLUW Chicago at just about any time of the day and get some good music and good talk. I'm very underwhelmed with the music selections these days as well as the Vocolo talk shows. What's up WLUW?
I might have to agree with what I've been reading lately. After trying Mog Radio I'm hooked. I love the feature that let's you create a cool playlist on the fly by entering a single artist, then telling the list how much to play that artist and how much to play others that are similar. The possibilities seem to be endless!
Future Perfect Radio used to be more of a blog but now they are a full-on internet station comprised of 35 channels. It's easy to use so give it a try.
North side, south side. Here's a site I've been following for a few years and you should too. Not sure how he manages to hear so much cool stuff, Can You See The Sunset is worth checking out at least once a week.
